autours de nos oliviers, il y a plutΓ΄t des armes fatales.
les larmes viennent après.

olive trees are truly beautiful and very special. and like palm trees they are an indicator that i am in a far away land ...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to EintoeRn [2012-07-21 12:17:14 +0000 UTC]

olives are very common in my region. palm trees has been imported to Lebanon (i think) for decoration of the roads mostly. not really fan of them, i don't find them beautiful.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to partiallyHere [2012-07-21 12:21:40 +0000 UTC]

come think of it, they certainly are not. but they also have a huge symbolic value. peace ! oasis ! and for me - being in a country withy a more pleasant climate as in mine

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to EintoeRn [2012-07-21 12:29:51 +0000 UTC]

i understand the symbolism

we don't have a pleasant climate anymore. the last 4 days we had almost 40 degrees (they said 34 but outside my car it wrote 39) and most annoying of all, a humidity that reached 90%.
these are new extremes.
global warming has a new meaning now

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to partiallyHere [2012-07-21 12:37:19 +0000 UTC]

i know you do
about the warming - sceptic.
when i was in cyprus in the summer of '84 it was well beyond 40Β°C each and every day in nicosia already at 10 in the morning.
when i had finished putting up my laundry on the roof, i could already start collecting the dried stuff from the other side of the line.
i found that very impressive

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to EintoeRn [2012-07-21 12:44:01 +0000 UTC]

yes, Cyprus is more extreme than us. i used to go in there for summers (during the war) i have an aunt married to a Cypriot, so i went there in winter too.
they have a different weather, dryer, hotter in day, colder in night. hotter in summer, colder in winters.

our biggest problem in here is humidity. it makes the hot unbearable.
i hate it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to partiallyHere [2012-07-21 12:51:13 +0000 UTC]

humidity makes you suffer, no doubt. and indeed, for strange reason the heat is very dry in cyprus, despite being an island.
i remember (long time ago from another life) that i left the plan in fiji. it was literally like walking into a WALL of hot humidity.
the few days there were the only ones that i ever wore shorts in public !
