Hey man--Great work! You've got the gift!--I also wanted to ask you if you could give me any advice on my own artwork?--I've recently started sticking to using photo ref. because it seems like people can better see my skills that way....

You must like Michael Turner. Either that or it is a huge coincedence!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

particle9 In reply to Atolm [2006-03-13 07:53:22 +0000 UTC]

haha, na not a coincedence. I used his material as my reference to learn to draw for years. I acctually wanted to take over drawing Fathom when Mike left the series, but that is fantasy. So I started my own company.check out the web site link above

I used to collect comic posters and splodge them all over my walls
this piece really reminds me of the kinda stuff I used to hang on my walls.
I wish I still had some of those.
ANYWAY yes your lines are insanly nice and smooth the colors are fantastic. The dragonflies are also very nicely done. This is a very busy piece but it's not confusing. It's tough to do that in a piece like this.
Thats a problem I have sometimes, knowing when to STOP putting in stuff

Good job

sanya [2006-03-11 07:22:08 +0000 UTC]

This is beautiful work, especially the coloring! I was just curious-- the Michael Turner element here is slap-in-the-face obvious, are you emulating his style as a statement, or does it just work for you? I was personally a huge Turner fan back in the day... he definitely influenced my style a bit, I think.

sanya In reply to sanya [2006-03-11 21:09:07 +0000 UTC]

I definitely know what you mean-- I followed Michael Turner religiously through Fathom and even started looking into some Witchblade because I thought he was such a fantastic artist... but like you said, I couldn't follow Fathom after he left it and his other series didn't do it for me. I'm sorry to hear you didn't have much luck with Aspen studios, but I think you've set a good goal. Good luck with developing your own style-- Turner's work was a decent launching pad for my style, so you'd probably do amazing things with it.

particle9 In reply to sanya [2006-03-11 08:32:15 +0000 UTC]

well I learned his style because my sole dream was to work on Fathom when he left the book. aside from collecting some sonic the hedgehog comics when I was a kid, its the only mature comic I have ever read...until he left it then I just didnt follow it anymore, and Soulfire didnt really catch my interest so I dont follow that one either. So when my perception of the time being right came about, I showed my work to the then newly formed company called Aspen at a con. Mike really liked my work and said he thought I would fit in well there at his company. The next day Peter pulled me aside and threatened me with a law suit. Now I have a new goal I don't want to work for Aspen, I would still love to do a colab piece with Mike, that's still a dream....or maybe its a fantasy who knows, but I do know that as I progress with my own material, the more my style starts to dive away from Mike's. At least that's what I think I see in my work. So to answer your question, I suppose the way I draw used to be a statement, and now it just works for me, but is slowly changing.
