Yugoslavia was built by brotherhood and unity, but looking at it, you have to realize in the long run, brotherhood and unity was no longer good. Due to various ethnic tensions, there's virtually no chance of Yugoslavia ever coming back.

ha this shit is funny, my grandfather was a great general in yugoslavia they even had him on post cards, until he disagreed about something and he had to flee, he had to hide almost a year in a barn, until someone told the police that he was there and they beat him to death. Yugoslavia didn't work, but you mostly likely have never lived in a communist state.

I don't think so.  The Yugoslav wars have destroyed any kind of trust these people had in each other.  Serbs don't trust Croats, Croats don't trust Serbs, Montenegro doesn't exactly like either of them very much.  Bosnia is culturally and ethnically divided to this day, and Slovenes are much more content with ruling themselves.  Whether one agrees with Slavic Nationalism or not, one cannot make these factors go away, and one cannot make these people trust each other again.  Yugoslavia died when the Republics left.

Is a new Yugoslavia possible? Yes. Will it look the same as the old on a map? By all means, no!

Like many have said before, not going to happen without a strongman leader to back them up. Not sure if a new Yugoslavia would be Communist/Socialist though. A lot of Southern Slavs are quite reactionary.

Yugoslavia was a good idea, however with high ethnic tensions in the region, especially after Tito's death, Yugoslavia is pretty much impossible to bring back, even if you do promote "Brotherhood & Unity" to the people.

Tito was strong, smart and a humanitarian who fought for peace; Brazil recognized it when gave him the South Cross Order decoration, the highest prize someone can earn from my motherland; Petkovic is a soccer player from Serbia who nowadays live in Brazil, he and many other people miss the socialist government, the "yugonistalgics"... I hope the yugoslav soil testify a new man rise and unify those people again.

I believe the way Yugoslavia worked was Major industry was controlled by the government and citizens were along to open small businesses and make profit.

It's a shame they left on such poor terms. It would be nice if Yugoslavia could be reformed so that its member nations could enjoy the high economic growth experienced in the past, but as it is nationalism will prevent any such union from existing in the foreseeable future.
Damn you nationalism!!

TheNewDoge In reply to TehTadpoleJackson [2015-06-07 04:21:17 +0000 UTC]

The funny thing was that is was nationalism that kept it together originally. Tito kept that ship running smoothly and inspired greatness in his people, however that was the downfall. Yugoslavia was Tito and Tito was Yugoslavia. After his death no one could fill in the gap that Tito left.

TehTadpoleJackson In reply to TheNewDoge [2015-06-07 13:15:39 +0000 UTC]

I think you just highlighted the problems of Nationalism.
Sure, it works fine (if a bit lacking in political freedoms) while you've got a strong leader pointing the way, but the second the opprotunity arises the whole thing falls apart because of sectionalism and localized nationalism.

TheNewDoge In reply to TehTadpoleJackson [2015-06-09 04:38:25 +0000 UTC]

I don;t think you understand. Tito was a NatCom. A nationalist Communist. He held Yugoslavia together because of nationalism. Also if you want internationalism? You have to get every country in the world- many who loathe each other- to share a space and expect them to get along. Or you could have nationalism and have a special pocket for each and every race that is unique to them to be happy while allowing them to visit each other and travel.

TehTadpoleJackson In reply to TheNewDoge [2015-06-09 14:43:00 +0000 UTC]

What happens when these special pockets start to attack each other for their neighbour's perceived inferiority?
Not denying that Nationalism has its place, but global segregation doesn't seem particularly desirable to me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheNewDoge In reply to TehTadpoleJackson [2015-06-10 15:25:06 +0000 UTC]

Well it wouldn't be segregation. Segregation would be only one race is allowed in certain area. Here's an example. Let's sue different colored shirts. So there's a restaurant with several tables all reserved for a different color of shirt. A table for yellows, a table for blues, reds, greens, etc. Each color has their won table where they can sit at. None of the tables are inferior or superior to each other. Just different but equal. Now let's say a red shirt wants to shit with a yellow shirt because their friends. That's fine. It is just one red shirt and he/she alone won't tip anything or bother the other yellows. Now what if the other red shirts leave their table and all come to the yellow table, making it not so nice to sit at and disturbing the native yellows? That is unfair. The reds can sit at the yellow table but the minuet they outnumber the yellows is the minuet there can no longer be no more.

TehTadpoleJackson In reply to TheNewDoge [2015-06-10 18:35:53 +0000 UTC]

Segregation was originally phrased as "separate but equal" too.
Logically, that one red shirt shouldn't bother the yellows, but in reality a few 200,000 Arabs come to the U.K. and everyone's up in arms.
It's absolutely ridiculous considering what a drop in the bucket that is, and how many, if not most of them are functioning members of society.

TheNewDoge In reply to TehTadpoleJackson [2015-06-10 19:05:00 +0000 UTC]

Well not really. Some are productive. Many are not. Perhaps the hate preacher Amen Chuadry* would like to give you call. Of course you could always have Sweden give you a lesson in multi-cultrualism. They made their own flag racist! Truly this is progress my friend! The Japanese have a term for it. It's called Gajin. jtf.org/wp-content/uploads/201…

A fine look into the progressive UN-nationalistic world of Sweden. Such progress. Such  diversity. A bastion of liberal ideals.

*not even opposed to immigration but it still stands. England is for the English and it will always be. Otherwise it wouldn't be called England. Also SOME of the immigrants are good. Others are not so good and everyone-including the aofrementioned good immigrants- rather wish they weren't there. Another interesting thing to note is the left likes to use this to capitlaize on votes. For example Steve Miliband wants to have more Muslims in his country not because he believes he can make theri lives better. He knows they will vote Labour and that = more votes for him.

Anyway, what I'm really saying when it gets down to it izzat I feel that we should eventually consider ourselves world citizens.
But ties to cultural heritage are just fine 'n dandy.

Uz maršala Tita, junačkoga sina
nas neće ni pakao smest'.
Mi dižemo čelo, mi kročimo smjelo
i čvrsto stiskamo pest.

Rod prastari svi smo, a Goti mi nismo,
Slavenstva smo drevnoga čest.
Ko drukčije kaže, kleveće i laže,
Našu će osjetit' pest.

Sve prste na ruci u jadu i muci
Partizanska složila je svijest.
Pa sad kad i treba, do Sunca do neba
Visoko mi dižemo pest.
