Esme is a salty, bitter man on the outside but a rather friendly person on the inside. Described as "rough when he doesn't know which way to rub" he doesn't really people well due to his habit of sarcasm and snark, but he does mean well. He was born in the slums of a city and grew up in poverty, working extremely hard to try to get through law school, and being fortunate enough to be immediately hired by magical law enforcement. However, this lead to a mission where he lost his right arm in a situation involving the betrayal of his then-boyfriend.

Fortunately during his travels, he had befrended a Winter Court Fae Prince, Hiver Mallomuse, who he had, albiet sarcastically, taught how to socialize in the human world. And despite a month of deep depression and falling back into near-homelessness, he was picked up by the Fae and claimed as one of the Fae's humans. While normally thought of as a negative thing, since humans don't particularly like being "owned" by others, Esme was offered the position of Court Advisor and was treated as near-royalty by the Fae who became his Queerplatonic Partner.
