Description I've been getting back into Osamu Tezuka stuff (again), and one of the most interesting aspects of his work is how much was inspired by western cinema. Last summer, I went on a pilgrimage to check out the media that Tezuka himself was inspired by; I found out that Acetylene Lamp, Hamegg, and Skunk Kusai were all inspired by characters from three movies: Un Temoin Dans La Ville, M, and Kiss of Death. Lamp's design was tweaked to look a bit more like Lino Ventura, while Skunk was straight up copied from Richard Widmark's character Tommy Udo. It was really fascinating to see where Tezuka got his influences. This work was meant to reflect on the trio's cinematic origins.

(Note: The images of Ventura, Lorre, and Widmark are all studio-shot promotional photos from 1931-1959, making them appropriate for non-profit fair use like this.)
