I was spying on the speedart and I was wondering how you did the gaps. I saw you painting the light but there was a flash of layer effects.
I think one was bevel and emboss but what was the other one?

1- I used an internal Shadow Layer Style
2- Then I duplicated the layer of the lines, threw it down and the opacity decreases.
3-Duplicated + once I changed the color of the layer to white
and threw it down and lessens the opacity as well.
4 - Finally a new layer above where you paint the light and shadows
I did a tutorial on youtube, where I teach some ways to do
although being in Portuguese maybe helps you
