Description An Asian-themed drawing/painting I've been working on over the weekend PATTERNS! Considering doing a small set of them, I have a willing model for it so it looks like a possibility

Drawing patterns is therapeutic, they said. You'll enjoy it, they said I did in the end, but wow it can be tiresome!

I was influenced by the great works of Ikenaga Yasunari for this mini collection.

Very interesting style. I love the tone of the colors...very muted. How did you achieve the textured look to that sort of beige that you used as the background for the large leaves? (like in the upper left of the picture) It's got a very traditional feel to it.

Thanks so much for your kind comments I wanted to give it a traditional feel, I'm glad that came across. I mainly used textures on different layers. The leaves layer had a texture of its own that was from a worn paper scan It was a happy accident in the end! I also added a 'noise' texture technique that an artist called Adonis on DA uses for the rest of the image, a very handy tip here: [link]

Hey thanks for the link to that tutorial. Looks like it's targeted to Photoshop, but I'm sure I can do something similar in GIMP.

No problem I've not used GIMP but if there is an option to overlay an image on top of your drawing/painting, I could make you a layer that would fit over it and have the same effect, would only take a minute

Oh thanks...that's very generous of you, but I'll work it out myself. That way I'll remember how to do it next time. I will ping you back if I have any questions. Now I just need time to draw...
