This is great reference!
I used this as reference for my 3D Modeling homework for class. I gave you credit for the art (by DA name/site). Cited your art
Thank you Just letting you know.
I should've asked first but I really hope you don't mind. When I found this turnaround reference I was so happy and tired that I forgot to ask.

There is a company in FL that now makes forreal lightcycles that glow etc. Youtube it... They run on batteries, too so they are eco-friendly!

A very good resource for anybody *ahem* looking to pursue the idea of lightcycles further than just watching the movie. One of these days when I have some real free time Ima draw one of these up in 3d and we'll see where it goes from there.

wouldn't it be so awesome if there were two Tron-style machine guns mounted on the sides/

Random thought: what if motorcycles really did look like that in real life?!

KayKove In reply to Director1265 [2011-01-30 18:50:34 +0000 UTC]

Random hypothetical insinuation: There's really no reason they shouldn't. It's just that nobody has the desire and the mechanical cajones to make a really functional, true-to-movie bike. It's a real shame, actually. However, since nobody's done a good job, that leaves it open for the rest of us , which is actually pretty exciting.

In that case, "GET ON WITH IT, HARLEY DAVIDSON!!!!!"

Actually, if Harley made light cycles, it would ruin them for me :-/. I'm just not a fan of Harley. Now, if KTM or BMW made them, now we're talking . BMW could make the sleek "good-guy" ones, and KTM could make the bad-ass evil ones

Oh I know, I've seen them. not the best, IMO, but I'm a stickler for authenticity. I want to make my own some day, but that's on the wishful end of my to-do list

I grew up watching the original Tron, so the covered-rider kind, both original and Daniel Simon's reboots, really appeal to me. My favorite design is actually one of Dan's process sketches that lead to Elderly Flynn's white Encom 786. It's the small side-view sketch in the middle of this page . IMO, the perfect amount of subtle modernized form employed on the very balanced original proportion. Classic but not so classic that it looks like 80's CG

So when other dorks realize it is a light cycle and tell you that yours wasn't in the movie you can smack them before driving off? ( I can't check out the link right now, at work but I will )
however, When some chick comes up and is like OMG that's one of Daniel Simon's process sketch light cycles that led to the Encom 786 You'll be all like

there's a speedometer on the front wheel if you watched the concept trailer close enough.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paul-Muad-Dib In reply to thomaschi0226 [2010-03-31 17:03:19 +0000 UTC]

Right, but that is a complete different cycle as my version.
It gets other frontlights, the top of the frontwheel is closed and have the speedometer.
Also the control lever and the pedals are different, and the safty for the back is graded.
My cycle based upon the pictures that most shown in the web.

Maybe, i make later a other version with the VFX-Version.

Yeah, and besides, the version in the film and the version from the 2008 comic con video (or remastered The Grid teaser) are different, not to mention that the blue and red racers have the same bikes, but CLU and Rinzler have custom bikes,

I like yours
