For the longest time I watched your work casually and was like, "oh man, this dude has a serious boner for that guy who did Aqua Leung, what a jerk, he should just be his badass self", saw this, and confirmed that I am, in fact, the only jerk here. Sometimes I forget that people with actually legitimate awesome careers are on deviantart, instead of just furries and girls who take photos of their shoes.
In terms of just this piece, what a rad idea! And as always, your color palette is royally superior. Silty and bright at the same time... oh jeez, cool! Cool!

Oddly enough I was contacted through DA originally to do Aqua Leung. Well, the project that became Aqua at least.
I honestly don't check the site that often, but just recently picked it up again. Mostly due to the fact that I feel weird looking at endless uploaded photos of girls boobs (with some terrible poetry attached) who I'm not entirely sure aren't underage. However, there are a hand full of cool people using the site, you just have to know where to look.
Thanks for compliment on the page though. I labored over those colors almost more than the inks. I'm still not happy with them but I guess you have to know when to walk away from something.

Yeah, I follow a bunch of cool and talented people on here for sure, it's just about wading through the bullshit, you're definitely right on that point. The inertia from finding one good account is pretty good though, if you can just ride their favorites into new neat stuff.
Yeah, your colors are what made me pick up Aqua Leung to begin with. Your linework is obviously cool and expressive, but your palettes are completely insane. What's your process? It seems very painterly, but not like the other digital stuff that's on here, all naked elf ladies or hyper-realistic mystical warriors or etc etc. 'totally not lame but actually bangin' cool' painterly? paraphrased? This is really silty and smooth, but with a huge punchy contrast at the same time. Just photoshop? Or, would you be revealing a trade secret that I would have to be assassinated or something if I knew?

I have a painters background, so that might make my process sort of similar. Honestly, all my colors are CS2 photoshop. I just set a layer to multiply and build on top of it using the lasso tool, a default dry brush and the gradient tool. I rarely create a second layer, but sometimes it helps to break up the image so I can tweak certain parts if I don't know where I'm going with it. I'm putting together a post about this particular page since I took progress shots of it from thumbs to finished colors. this is really great, I love how it's structured. At the beginning I looked at the face in the middle and all the detail and didn't really understand it till I read the frames, then it all hit me like an 'oooohhhhhh' wave.
well done. great use of detail to assure no space is wasted. im interested in seeing more.
