Description
“Suh-wing, batter, batter! Suh-wing!”
“Miles, cut out the incantation chanting,” Gaius scolded from the pitcher’s mound. “If we wanted bats flying around the field, we’d be playing on Vlad’s diamond.”
The wizard at home base, his shaggy brows in a tenacious furrow, pointed his crystal-knobbed staff toward Jupiter, causing the first baseman to chortle and inhale the tips of his long mustache.
“Merlin’s beard, Harry,” he choked, “if you hit this ball into the cosmos, I’ll turn my aunt into a frog.”
“Less chatter, more staff-ball!” a white-chinned heckler called out from the crowd.
As Harry brought his staff back for the swing, the umpire took up his cry once more: “Suh-wing, batter, batter!”
“You’re killing me, Miles.”
