Description Imperial Chinese(Qing  Dynasty)Navy Beiyang Fleet Officers Uniform 1888(Service Uniform) and 1898(Summer Service Uniform).
The sleeve insignia in this drawing contain two dragon line with dark-blue circle and a thin cloud line,which means the position of "都司充管带"(the Dusi(都司) who the hold the post of captain).During the official documents, "都司充管带" is a post which of standard 4th class rank(正四品)in Chinese military official ranks(wear lazuli or dark-blue glass jewel hat ball), equal to Lieutenant Commander.
The Type 1888 hat has the short edge, high top and a jewel(with traditional Qing Dynasty regulation color) on the top.
The Type 1898 hat has the high edge, flat top and a dark-blue knots take place the jewel. Every officers use the same hat knot.
Their tunic was called "如意云头纹马褂"(cloud pattern tunic), which was widely used by Imperial Chinese Army and Navy officers from 1882~1905.
Note:The modern military rank system of China was established in 1904, in late 19th century,the "Modern Army/Navy" officers don't have their military rank.They only have the insigina to express their position and traditional Qing Dynasty official ranks.
