Granted, I wasn't really raised in an environment of American literature - Russian literature is usually more to the point. Still, the messages overlap. The past is never lost and is always worth finding again. Long-buried civilizations were onto something. What exactly that was can be found in modern-day inventions. Sometimes that's because we dug up their secrets and replicated them. And sometimes it's due to convergent innovation. The same way that different species evolved the same tools(eyes, wings, methods of absorption), so too do human inventions track towards similar outcomes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
