Hi Armsman70,
I'm glad to hear that you like my creation, it was among my first leather creations back in 2007-08. The design was inspired by historical pieces, however I crafted the pattern myself to suit my needs. Over the years many of my patterns, including this one, were damaged and lost unfortunately. If it helps, make a paper test model of a wide Oval shape with a smaller 0 (zero) shape in the middle. Test that out and modify it until it gives something that you like.
I hope that helps.
Thank you.

Lovely work! I have recently started doing some leather work and was wondering if you have any info/reference book resources you'd like to share. It's hard to pin down good leathercrafting books

Hi! I'm glad you enjoy my work. I started doing leather about 4 years ago and with out any guides or books, just by trial and error. You'll see over time that even with guides, trial and error is still the best way to gain experience.

This website, the Tandy Leather Factory (inc), has a section for books, magasines, etc, but also a good extensive library of "how to" videos that they created over the past two years.

For buying, Tandy is a little expensive, even with the regular membership, but their advantage is that they have a wide variety of items and are usually easily accessible. There is one in almost every major city throughout the US and there are a few in Canada aswell. with some extensive searching on the web you could probably find other stores or dealers that are near you.

Enjoy

Yeah, Tandy recently had a sale so I bought some basic tools, dyes, finish and some veg bellies to practice, thanks for the advice : ) I work better from trial and error

That's pretty nice. How did you get the color; is it a dye, or just natural?

Thank you
It is an ecologicaly friendly, water based dye that is sold by TandyLeatherFactory. This is one piece of an elvish inspired leather armor suit
