Yeah it works great!
Not to betray my nikon, but I'm pretty sure I'd be happier with a Canon. I don't know if it's just me but I'm pretty sure photos taken by a Canon come out in cooler color tones, while Nikon captures warmer hues.

In that respect, I think the Canon Rebel Xti or (something like that ) is about the same as my Nikon D40x. But given the chance, I would choose the Canon out of my own preference.
