Description A shiny Meganium, for , of course!

I wanted to do Meganium with its alternative shiny coloration. But when I finished, I realized that it looked about as shiny as driveway gravel. I have really limited resources here in my tiny college dorm room, so desperate to make shininess with something, I began to frantically search my room. I have no gel pens, but I did have opaque white watercolor! Sweet, I thought. That'll do.

But what on earth was I going to apply it with? This entire drawing is so small I can nearly cover it with the palm of my hand, and my smallest paintbrush is about the diameter of the Meganium's iris. So I started looking for something thin and pointy. I have no needles, no toothpicks, nothing fitting the description.

Finally, I settled on a Crayola colored pencil, sharpened to a perfect point. Really. I applied the white shinies with a colored pencil dipped in white paint. Do what you can with what you have!

It's actually much cooler in person, because the shinies stick up from the paper. But the scan will do. Enjoy!

Col-Erase colored pencils (sketch), Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, Prismacolor markers, Pelikan Chinese White opaque watercolor.

This is so beautiful. The colors are so rich. It just feels good to look at.

Also, hooray for Meganium! I don't know how popular it is, but assume not so much, from the few people I've surveyed. It does happen to be my favorite starter pokΓ©mon. : )

Thanks so much! I appreciate that.

I have a soft spot for all unpopular Pokemon.

Is it really that unpopular? The only things I know in terms of popularity are that most people love charmander, darkrai, and sometimes pikachu.

People love the Pika-kin, Legendary Pokemon, Eeveelutions, dragon Pokemon, vulpine and canine Pokemon (like Arcanine and Ninetales), and the starter Pokemon families. Despite being a starter evolution, Meganium doesn't get nearly enough love. I've been managing the *pokedorks gallery for years, and I rarely saw Meganium artwork come through until it was the Pokemon of the Month back in March. I guess I tend to base my concept of which Pokemon are popular and which aren't by how often they come through the club gallery (which has well over 2,000 submissions now).

Thanks for the information! And I had recently been admiring pokedorks and really enjoy what I see there. You do a wonderful job putting that all together, and I love the themed contests you put there. I'm seriously considering joining the group, because some other member had said in a comment somewhere that they "really liked the people" in the group.

Just letting you know that your club is doing wonderfully. I have to say I'm just a little bashful about joining because I'm not entirely sure how they work, and because I don't think I have anywhere to put a "I'm a member!" stamp because I don't have a paid account. But I'll do some research.

Peachfuzz In reply to projectautumn [2008-05-10 14:35:42 +0000 UTC]

There isn't a member stamp. We just use the club icon, which any deviant can put up.

My friend =StarDragonBlue founded *pokedorks as an all-inclusive place for mature Pokemon fans who just want a dependable, rule-abiding club to share their fan art and meet other fans in a constructive and friendly environment (as well as earn real prizes through contests and club participation!). I have to be honest... Some people are unsatisfied with the club because we have strict rules and limitations compared to most others. *pokedorks is conservative. The good side of this is that the club gallery adheres to DA submission policy and everything in it is appropriate for young audiences.

Of course, I'm biased. Being one of the admins and all.

I think this looks perfect in the small view, kinda like how some people probably think of my trading cards. The colors are so beautifully blended with your wicked marker skills.

Thank you so much, Eclipsis. This is a different paper than I normally use, so I was hoping the blending would come out well.

Thanks a ton, Poo. Drawing shinies is always fun. This is the first time I've ever actually done the shininess and not just the differing colors, though.
