The pink shirt makes no sense. If I'm not mistaken, it's trying to say 「ご飯の団」, (Group of Rice) but for one thing, the person who designed the shirt can't even spell ご飯 right (they spelled it as ご坂).

Independent study is alright, you just need to have the determination and willpower. But it's better to have a tutor that can correct your mistakes

I have used Pimsleur to learn how to speak, but writing wise I've mainly found videos on youtube from Japanesepod101 showing how to properly write Hiragana and Katakana.. The only Kanji I know is 鳥 means bird. XD
Even then I feel like I write most of them wrong... ;-;
