Nancy took a step toward him, peering at his head. "Hold still," she ordered. "You still have glass in your hair."Joe stopped dancing and ducked his head down. Nancy reached up and brushed her hand through his bangs.
"Thanks," Joe said, shooting her a look.
Uh-oh. I recognized that look. It meant trouble.
There's another part where Frank said something like (and I'm paraphrasing), "Joe gave her a look. The one that makes him look like a complete tool." But I can't find that one.
This is from Terror on Tour, the first crossover of the newest ND/HB book series. Joe is stupid for Nancy and it's adorable but kind of sad. He also refers to Ned as Captain America.

Luckily, that crush vanishes into the wind. (And then suddenly, Frank's all mushy, though he spent all of Terror on Tour being an anal retentive jerk who has hissy fit upon hissy fit at the idea of outside help. They're all so cute, aren't they?)
After reading that book, Captain America became my new favourite Ned nickname, beating "Robot Boyfriend" and "Pansy Pushover" and "Doormat". I have to say though, the college football playing all around nice guy act is deserving something like 'Captain America'.
