la referencia era a Hernán Villar, uno de los mejores fotógrafos y profesores de fotografía que hay en el país

Thanks man... while I agree with you that painting is not his best representation, he actually is Simon Bolivar "The Liberator", our founding father!

Since "23 de Enero" is a harsh neighborhood in Caracas, and the birth place of many of the social struggles and movements in Venezuela for over the past half century, my guess is that the artist tried (and succeded) to make an alike harsh expression of The Liberator as a reminder to the people that even though there have been major improvements over the last decade, there´s still a lot to do in order to implement much needed social changes.

These days I´ll be submitting some more photos from a documentary work I did at "23" over a year ago... and thanks again for your support Josh

ah, thanks for the insight. i'm actually a history fanatic, and i really don't know anything in regard to the history of venezuela. i know i've heard that name before though, "simon bolivar".

yeap, he freed Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia from Spain´s rule back in the 19th century... in fact we´re celebrating this coming year our Bicentennial
