Description I decided to draw a second girl from the kingdom of Noricum wearing traditional clothing. (and this time I tried making her look a little more central- rather than nothern-european)

Noricum was a celtic kingdom that existed since the 3rd century BC in what is today Austria and Slovenia. The Norici where well known for their skill in metal work and also had a rich source of iron, gold and salt. That made them ideal trade partners for the roman republic and "ferrum noricum" would become porverbial for good quality steel. The relationship of Noricum and Rome stayed friedly and King Voccio even send troop to support Julius Caesar in 49 BC. However the wealth also made Noricum a target for invading germans and the romans that where called to help where beaten at the battle of Noreia - one of the worst roman defeats.
The transformation into a roman province went over peacefully with many Norici recieving roman citizenship right away.
However tombstones prove that especially woman held on to traditional celtic names and dress. Depicted here is what this traditional dress looked like according to depictions and archaeological findings.www.replik-shop.de/images/prod…
Most characteristic is the belt. Another important part of Norici fashion was the headdress known as a noric cap that can be seen here www.ubi-erat-lupa.org/img/monu… I did not depict that here though.

Just like the previous one, really great looking metal works, shows status for sure!
Thanks for the additional information as well...

I'm actually feeling like... maybe starting a short story on Norici Roman relations from the Norici view point  just because of your art, and because it sounds interesting, to show Romans not just invaded everyone and also to see how aincent central Europe looked like.

Thank you! I am getting better at drawing metal every time!

That would be awesome! I would love to read that, please tell me once you start with the writing - I actually gave the woman in the picture a name - Ategenta (found on several tomb stones in Salzburg). But I agree, that is a very important topic, otherwise people will think that Roman Britain was the only province there was... and that all celts are blue-painted weridos.

Yes you sure are!

Well its really just an idea for now, I have nothing set in stone for it, no plot, no main chars XD I need to do resharce first, now I at least know a common Norici name that is something to start from

Sure Brittan and Gaul are the most well known conquerd roman provinces, but there were loads others many happily joining the growing super power.

If you need some more names, just ask, I have a whole databank on tombstones with lots of norici names on them. A male name for example is Nammonius.

come to think of it, Gladiator is even partly set in roman Austria, they even mention it at one point in the movie

Thank you! Yeah I will need more names for sure, if I wanna be accurate on the level of names as well.

Hnm, which part exactly? The crusades of Marcus Aurelius were going way deeper into Germania, while 'Austria' was a province.

Great! I will a list with some names

In the Arena, Maximus tells one of the other soldiers that they served "together at Vindobona" indicating that that was near the battle in the beginning (and also the place Marcus Aurelius died at in reality) also he spend most of the time during the war in Carnuntum.

Thanl you! That will help a lot when I get around to it!

Hnm okay, I guess distances are relative XD and that sorta makes sense as the danube was the limes over that part of the empire, so everything on the other side was germanie and or barbarian land.
