Description Katarinahissen, "The Catherine Elevator", is one of Stockholm's most known landmarks. It isn't pretty, it isn't very useful, it isn't even the original construction.

Still, any politician trying to tear it down would undoubtedly loose a lot of goodwill. Maybe all of it. Some things are simply popular beyond understanding.

- Well, it does provide room for one of Stockholm's most prestigious restaurants, Gondolen, "The Gondola". It derives its name from the structure that was the passenger module below the rigid airships of the old days, such the Hindenburg. And that is exactly what it feels like to be up there.

Shot in Stockholm in 2010.

It's a good question why people love it so much and hard to answer, although I love it too, now that I've heard and read about it.

I think that it has to do with the fact that people know that it's a little bit crazy and that there is no building like it in the world, so when they see it, they know they're home, or that it is something from home. Plus, it's only built for fun, their fun, not for the prestige of some banker or the church.

The lift takes you up 38 metres above the waterfront from where you can enjoy spectacular views over the Old Town. [link]

Why not combine the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view over Stockholm with a tasty meal at the Gondolen Restaurant.
