Or at least not another white guy named Chris. We need more PoC Marvel hero characters who aren't stuck as background characters or not being used and/or killed off. (Hogun, Rhodey, Agent Tripplett, Mike Petersen).

(That said, I agree with Lola-in-the-Black in making an exception for Christian Kane. He's perfect, and I always thought Agents of SHIELD and Leverage would be an awesome crossover and Eliot Spencer and Melinda May forming a subtle bond over similar pasts and being "the Cavalries")

Yes. I wouldn't replace the ones that already are there, because they are really great, but when choosing new important characters they should consider that. And I want more Heimdall!!!

When I've heard Melinda is "the Cavalry" I immediately thought about Eliot And since Leverage is my favourite TV series I often caught myself on thinking, while watching SHIELD, "Eliot would be great in this scene" or "Eliot would help here"
And remember Eliot was prepared to fight with aliens

Tehodda In reply to Lola-in-the-Black [2015-07-23 08:37:01 +0000 UTC]

As season 2 of Agents of SHIELD went on I kept thinking about how, in the beginning, they felt like a Leverage 2.0 team regarding team roles, and later on how awesome it would be if Coulson brought the Leverage team in because SHIELD needed a temporary third party to help fly past HYDRA’s radar, like in the Leverage S4 finale when the team brought in other past enemies/colleagues in to help take down the main enemy. Leverage team did have a bit of reputation by the end of series.

I saw Eliot first being reluctant to take the job since HYDRA is a huge terrorists and clashing with SHIELD'S specialty of guns, but gets on board when he hears about Ward and Garrett and scoff at those saying Ward is a victim and not really HYDRA. Hardison would be more scared since white supremacist Nazis AND super tech weapons, but then geeks out over SHIELD's gadgets and being amongst fellow hackers, builders, and geeks Skye, Fitz, Simmons, Mack, Trip (and people who worked with the Avengers!).

And don't get me started on Parker. Her seeing a lot of herself in Skye and Skye's familial relationship w/ Coulson and his team. Plus Parker was always able to see the big pictures of things, so like with HYDRA's plans as well as observing Coulson’s team members. And, when SHIELD was having internal problems (Real SHIELD, Inhumans), Coulson asks Parker what she would do and how her teammates work so well together.

Lola-in-the-Black In reply to Tehodda [2015-07-25 14:03:47 +0000 UTC]

Wow! I see you have it all well planned
I think that Eliot and Parker are perfect field agents and they would help a lot (plus Parker would be good as a person in charge).
Hardison - isn't that how Sky started when they didn't know who she is? Also it's true SHIELD has many geek agents Plus just imagine Hardison's reaction to all the stuff (I immediately thought of he's "Batcave reaction" ).
Nate - of course a mastermind, I'm curious how he'd deal with Coulson being in charge, I guess he'd need his own unit instead of being directly a subordinate. And Sophie - wouldn't she perfectly trick HYDRA and others?

We can also imagine accidental meeting of teams in Leverage
F.ex. if SHIELD took somebody's stuff (like Jane's stuff in Thor) and the team would try to take it back.

Tehodda In reply to Lola-in-the-Black [2015-08-28 10:21:12 +0000 UTC]

(I knew I should have logged way sooner )

Even Bobbi's introduction on AoS reminded me of Tara Cole's!

Now I'm picturing Hardison and Coulson geeking out together.

I initially didn't think about Nate and Sophie being recruited because I imagined all this happening after Parker became the leader (and Leverage International became a real thing).

Nate, I'm sure now and then would want to interject Coulson's choices. "W-wait what are you doing? That won't work, you can't do that." With the rest of Leverage team being like, "Did those words come out of Nate’s mouth?"

Sophie would be very "worrisome mother" about Parker and the boys being involved with modern-day Nazis, but would have a field day training Coulson's agents in grifting.

Now I’m going to take that as headcanon for how Coulson found out about Leverage team and how he knew how to reach them when he needed to call in a third party to help.

Lola-in-the-Black In reply to Tehodda [2015-08-28 14:58:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh, true! I never thought about that comparison Bobby-Tara and you're so right! In general I think Tara would be a perfect agent in SHIELD - she had some training or at least knows what people learn on special forces' trainings.
And I think it wouldn't be candy sweet kind of matching - she takes care of her own business and doesn't let others take what's hers

I thought about Sophie and Nate because I still can't imagine team without them and I've heard about plans of making a film and Nate and Sophie would be there But for now it's more like a wish of fans :/

Oh, I imagined Hardison with Skye (Daisy) competing And all funny comments and overreacting Hardison does - it would give a lot to the show

Where do you see Ward in this crossover? As a villain or rather grey zone character? I still can't see him as entirely bad guy, but for sure for a longer while the kind of big bad wolf scaring Hardison and motivating both teams to team up (yeah, I know Hardison is braver than this, but he plays so well ).

I see Coulson asking Nate: "Plan A is burnt. Do you have a plan B now?" and Nate saying: "That was my plan H", we should go to plan M in this circumstances"

Yes, Sophie is that caring type. Melinda had that from time to time as the leading agent of Skye. Bobby was pretty good as a double agent but I think all SHIELD agents could use some grifting tips from Sophie.

About whole first meeting of teams I'd stick to the option that somebody would lose his/her research about some Object 084 and Leverage team would take it back (something like Jane losing her stuff in "Thor"). You know, a type of client that doesn't want money or revenge, just to take back their property. Coulson would catch them and offer cooperation after having realised how helpful they can be.

I also would like to see Tara, Maggie and Quinn again

Tehodda In reply to Lola-in-the-Black [2015-10-07 06:23:03 +0000 UTC]

(Oh my god I'm ashamed to be replying so late. But it's still relevant w/ AoS recently returned!)

Tara would be brilliant, especially because she’s more of a 4th party for SHIELD so all the more harder to connect her to them.

Now you made me wonder what Tara would be like when she’d come across Hunter. I can’t imagine he’d be as an annoyance as Sterling (who actually reminded me of Gen. Talbot too!) but I’d imagine she’d be less tolerable about him than Bobbi and Mack are.

Hardison be like, “FINALLY! Other brothers..and sisters...who know what I'm talking about!” with Mack and Fitz and Jemma, and "Superpowers!" with Skye and whatever other Inhumans get recruited.   (Eliot will just default to, “Dammit Hardison!” regardless if it was actually Hardison’s doing )

I see Ward trying to recruit Eliot (undercover or not) to join his new HYDRA team since Eliot fits all the criteria of an ideal HYDRA/Nazi soldier: white guy, a valuable asset w/ military training, AND experience as a hitman. Eliot would have to play along but wouldn’t buy into HYDRA’s “for the greater good” spiels or be able to stand listening to Ward claim how much of a victim he is, because as he told those anti-government militia men that kidnapped him and Hardison in “The Gone Fishin’ Job”,
“That’s the difference between a real soldier and this Halloween getup...You’d kill to protect your rights. A real soldier, he’d die protecting someone else's.”

In fact, Eliot is the one of the first people I think of every time I hear people try to say Ward is actively trying to redeem himself, or “is just misunderstood”, “a good man done wrong” or “was abused by Skye, Fitz, and the SHIELD team.” Because Eliot was just like him, and those actions still haunt him to this day, and now he not only works toward helping others but also makes sure his friends don’t make his same mistakes. (Hence why he’d connect with Melinda so well.)

And on top of all the white supremacy talk (when his best friend and the smartest guy he knows is a BLACK man), Eliot also respects women. He taught Sophie and Parker how to fight, not to mention a group of 10 year old school girls during “The Fairy God Mother Job”; he’s very protective over Parker; takes care of Leverage’s female clients; and (someone else pointed this out) even with his one-night stands enough to remember their names and things he learned about them (“*brings up valuable information to case* What? I dated a girl who was a …”) So hearing Ward speak badly and brag about what he did with Skye, May, Kara (Agent 33), and Bobbi would disgust him.

HARDISON: (to COULSON) “No dude, don’t let him get to plan M! I die in plan M! And I heard about yo man Tripp, you can't let another brotha die like that!”

I always thought Melinda was a cross between Eliot and Sophie because Melinda mentoring Skye in the first half of the season just like Sophie was teaching Parker. And she was obviously the most experienced in grifting.

Maggie would surprise everyone just popping up out of nowhere. ("You know her?" "Wait, how do YOU know her?" "Whoa who brought Maggie here?") Nate and maybe even the others would be adamant about Maggie not getting involved at first because of how dangerous HYDRA is, but Maggie would be just as adamant to help any little amount possible. Of course she'd grift, and had been working on her right hook since she last knocked out the insurance guy.

I’d hope Quinn wouldn’t end up on HYDRA’s side, but from what little we saw of him he seems to have personal standards too, so he may not join HYDRA if he got recruited. If he did end up teaming with Eliot however, I could see him and Eliot form a personal competition for how many HYDRA agents they can take out. Or, if they went undercover in HYDRA, there’s also this running gag of Quinn always asking, “Can I hit him?”, meaning any HYDRA agent that said/did something wrong or stupid, to try to win Ward’s favor while also satisfying SHIELD’s, but mostly his, need to punch some HYDRA agents.

Lola-in-the-Black In reply to Tehodda [2016-02-11 15:15:06 +0000 UTC]

Ok, first of all I'm very sorry it took me so long, but I was away from dA for months, I'm still catching up with all.

I have to admit I need to catch up with new SHIELD episodes too, so I'm talking now from the season beginning's perspective now.

Somehow I see Tara getting along well with Bobbi, you know, strong women, knowing how to pretend to be somebody else, switching identity easily, having to be tough.
I don't like conflicts, but I would love to see how Sophie would have to deal with more cold and calculated methods of Tara and Bobbi.

I think Sophie was really close to Melinda in The Hot Potato Job - she tried to be more like Eliot and it was really interesting. In the same time she is a little like a mother figure, like Melinda was to Skye.
Parker having to deal with them all would be good, I think Skye would be here a good help, having some similar experience.

I loved how Hardison and Eliot were completely different and somehow became close friends, almost like brothers. I think this would be very precious for whole company. I miss some more loyalty in SHIELD, the kind that was in Leverage - they can disagree and get mad with each other, but they are honest and have each other's back (not counting that episode with Nate hypnotising Hardison - it wasn't nice, but I didn't understand why the rest got so mad with him - all he did was reminding in hypnosis that Hardison can play the violin well. Maybe you have other impressions about it? Or I missed something here?)

All ex-wives motive might be funny Nate and Hunter could somehow relate

I think Quinn wouldn't join HYDRA but he might consider it, not knowing all facts - Ward doesn't need to honestly tell him everything.
And I totally see him and Eliot fighting side by side with Melinda, Bobbi and Skye.
But I think Chaos would be a good candidate, also not knowing whole truth. I'd see it as fun: Chaos being against Hardison again, but not as entirely bad guy, changing side again in the end.

I'd see Fitz a little confused and Jemma and Mack absolutely not trusting the Leverage team, at least at first. Fitz would get along with Hardison after a while, after all they both are good honest guys

I think Sterling should appear there at some point Wanting something from the crew, helping a little against HYDRA in return, a kind of a grey zone

Thinking about Parker's skills I wonder how Coulson could survive without having a real, invisible thief - undercover agents are one thing, quick actions that nobody even notices are something else.
