Description I cannot rip my mind from this show- I don't know why. I'm utterly addicted to it. And there isn't really all that much fanart of it around.

Like 90% of this show's audience, my favourite character is Stork. Goddamn I love the crazies. I drew him as a person, since I don't think I've seen it done yet, and I'm far too tired from revision to invest myself in drawing him as a Merb.

Also, the image of Stork swearing (sort of what's happening in the lower-right sketch) makes me far happier than it should.

Okay, Stork is hot! Btw, what show is he from? I'm stupid.

Haha Thank you! He's much less handsome in his show- cancelled now, it's called Storm Hawks.

I finally remembered. It took a while, and a lot of deep brain cleaning, but I finally got it!

Storm Hawks it's finished now, but it was a Cartoon Network show.

Oh. What non-human species was Stork originally a member of?

Pentamerone In reply to BlackberryFinn [2012-06-21 22:21:28 +0000 UTC]

He's called a Merb they're this really nervous species of humanoid. They never really elaborate beyond that, but he might be amphibious.

This may be the best "humanized" version of Stork I've seen yet. Normally I don't care for those, but this one actually looks like him. And the expressions are dead-on.

Also, you know that if the show's rating allowed it, Stork would swear like a fiend. Frequently. Especially during those outbursts of his. It's totally in-character, but the censors won't allow it... THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Oh wow, thank you very much!

I find this with a lot of cartoon characters, you know? I reckon Finn would have a pretty loose tongue as well, but I doubt Aerrow even knows any dirty words .

ianam1983 In reply to Pentamerone [2011-04-24 21:12:45 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I'm sure Aerrow knows a few. Doesn't use 'em very often, but I can definitely see him yelling out a "Damn!" when a plan goes wrong, at the very least. Even Piper can probably be moved to bursts of profanity once in a while. She does have quite a temper on her... and quite a vocabulary, lol. Probably capable of swearing in several different languages if you really get her riled.

Junko, on the other hand... I'd be shocked to ever hear a "naughty" word or phrase fall from his mouth. I imagine Finn's (and Stork's) language at times makes him blush. XD

Pentamerone In reply to ianam1983 [2011-04-28 17:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha I reckon Junko wouldn't know half the things being said if obscenities started being thrown around. He's too innocent to even know what some words mean. But yeah I think your theories are very accurate- especially Piper!

I don't know the show (I read a bit after I was able to find out what "SH" stood for ) but I like this sly, perhaps scheming (lower right) person already. I didn't find any good pictures of him as a Merb but he looks pretty cool as-is here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pentamerone In reply to cuteswan [2010-06-10 20:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! He's a paranoid, twitchy, borderline-neurotic schemer who despite it all is very firmly on the side of good . I think the animation world needs more characters like him.

It takes all types, and busting many stereotypes is something that more shows could stand to do. Maybe deconstructing some of your current "cast members" and randomly trying out quirks (in your mind at least) would help you come up with a beginning story arc and some character development.

Maybe you can use the method that writers for all of the "Star Trek" series used, involving two spinners with pre-printed phrases that never changed week to week...

Seriously though, maybe some people watching or thinking about the odd behaviors of people around you will spark something. At the very least it'll keep you out of boredom for a few hours.

Hey, thanks for the good ideas ! I'm currently filling up a notebook with developing those characters. I came across a questionnaire that covers pretty much every aspect of a character possible. I'm pretty much hoping on what you're describing here; that a trait or something will spark a plot.

But if not, those guys will come in handy for university anyway.

cuteswan In reply to Pentamerone [2010-06-16 03:33:14 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, personality questionnaires for cartoon characters? That sounds like a lot of fun. Still you're right that having a pool of practiced, consistent characters to draw from (pun so totally intended) is a great idea.

Now, sometimes people will read something of mine and ask how I get my ideas. Sure, most people start with real life and then start changing an element here, another there, and basically build out from there. Oh, but not me! Usually while chatting or in e-mail exchanges I come up with the most outrageous, craziest and silliest ideas I can imagine: out of those sometimes I see a spark and then start taming it back until it's something that's much closer to normal.

So you can try just letting your mind go wild with all sorts of ideas for them just to see if anything clicks. Maybe you won't get a whole storyline, and maybe you won't get anything, but it's likely you'll at least get some snippets to write down for later. Besides, "stretching your mind muscle" makes it easier to call up even smaller ideas when you need them.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that sometimes it's just fun to be really silly?

Anyway, I hope you're having a terrific week. Take care.

Pentamerone In reply to cuteswan [2010-06-17 16:48:44 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea where ideas come from they're not based on real life or conversations. Generally something will spark it, but by the time the idea is in any way tangible I can't remember the original spark. Like with my current thing.

I also find that brainstorms help because it's, like you said, stretching the mind muscle. You just keep on finding little tangents and stuff.

I hope you're having a great week too!

cuteswan In reply to Pentamerone [2010-06-19 03:18:35 +0000 UTC]

Tangents are great, much better than secants. (Who says trigonometry isn't funny?)

Though like you wrote sometimes it's hard to backtrack to the original train of thought. Though at times I've found myself thinking about such weird or unusual stuff that I'll stop and struggle to remember what led me there. (Sometimes I can and sometimes I just let it go and start with something completely different.)

Right now I'm wrangling free from one of the alligators on my bottom and can concentrate on the other two. I'm trying to keep myself from coming up with anything brand-new and saving all of the creative sparks for these stories themselves. However, if something does force its way in then I'll just take notes on it until it leaves me alone.

But you don't ever have to leave me alone. Have a great weekend.

That joke went right over my head it's been a while since I did trig.

I get that a lot in conversations, you know? They usually blossom into something totally unrecognisable.

"Alligators on my bottom" is something I have never heard before. I like it . I'm saving up all my creative energies too, in the hopes I'll be continually motivated.

Hope you've had a good weekend too .

cuteswan In reply to Pentamerone [2010-06-21 04:57:10 +0000 UTC]

I keep forgetting what a secant is anyway and it's probably not that important. (Writing that may cause some dischord among mathematicians though. )

The original term was "I have too many alligators on my ass!" to describe having a lot of assignments pending; when doling out assignments one may complain, "There aren't enough asses for all the alligators." I changed it to "bottom" simply due to my aversion of swear words. (That's so when I do swear then everyone knows something serious is going on. )

If you ever want to have a conversation that will get totally wild and out of control then let's set up a time to chat. Meanwhile have an awesome week and take care.

Pentamerone In reply to cuteswan [2010-06-21 16:06:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh you!

I haven't heard that term ever before in my life , and I use a bunch of them. I also have... somewhat less of an aversion to swearwords .

Have an awesome week yourself !

You drew him so cute. I-I bow at your feet. BOWING.

And oh gosh, they do, don't they? That had totally slipped my notice. Merbs are way cooler though . And I don't think Stork would ever do that connecting-to-animals thing, he'd be terrified of getting infected .
