First one out of 3 I'm putting up for adoption,Starting bid is 20 USD
due to a lot of hateful/spammy comments on my starting bid I changed it to 20 USD.

I'm a little late to the party, but I don't care!
There's 2 types of adoptables:
a) Firstly, most popular (I think?): Rushed or badly drawn designs slapped onto a base (possibly somebody else's base on top of that), often produced en masse and sold for a small price because you're only paying for the design. It's a legit practice, but it takes little to no effort on the artist's behalf. These type of adoptables are in a way of "lesser" quality. This doesn't mean the designs are bad quality, oh no! But you have to realize the artist needs to make very little effort to put these designs out there.
b) And on the other hand (Like we have here): Quality adopts with their own unique, individual artwork which serves as a first piece of art of your new adopt as well as a good reference picture for future drawings. Obviously these take WAY more time to make and it's only logical you'll be paying more for these.
Which type of adoptable an artist prefers to make is totally up to them. Remember, "love an tolerance" is all about respecting their choice! If a quality adopt is outside of your budget, then complaining about it isn't going to magically solve that problem. Basically, you're asking an artist to undervalue their own work because you're used to buying "lesser" quality work. That's both selfish and disrespectful towards the artist!
Not to mention, all this complaining causes a great deal of stress on the artist too! They're just a regular person like you and I. Too much negativity could potentially put them off from making more adoptables in the future!
So instead, let's do the responsible thing: if you like the adopt, compliment Peppy for her fine work. But if it's outside your budget, take it like a grown-up and move on.

I have created adopts (and I'm the type that makes the simple ones) but I'm thinking of recreating them in a more complex setting.

I know you said that the cutie mark and so on can be changed. Out of curiosity, would a cutie mark be included in the auction cost? If not, would you be willing to vector one and add it to her image for a small fee?

The starting bid could be lower !!just to get more people to bid!! but don't let them discourage you now, people even whine to me about $10 adopts. So they will complain as long as you put up NORMAL prices and not 50c cr*p XD
