“Pond was a young otter pup just over two months old, her eyes had opened not long ago and she was learning how to run and swim. Her frisky, adventurous spirit led her into the water and down the stream. With every step away from the den she felt more alive, more wild. She ventured onto the bank and was gazing up at some delicious, ripe, juicy looking blackberries when an eagle swooped down from the trees and took hold of her. Frightened, Pond thrashed about, clawing at the Eagle’s underside best she could, but its talons sank into her belly. Pond managed to break free, but found herself falling toward the forest floor at a dangerous speed. She hit the stones of an old stone bridge hard. Laying there as life slipped away, she caught sight of someone blue.” Shaa owned by Alturdbutt found Pond at the edge of death, he transformed her into an esk on the old stone bridge.
