Description Hey guys! I've been spamming tumblr and my instagram pages with these progress pictures, and since I can't post them here from there, I decided to give you guys a little sneak peek as well.

This is a miniature coral reef in an Altoids tin. I was up from 11pm until 2am making the little corals for this piece. I finished the two little clown fish this morning and I had to post it. I love it! I will be really sad when I put this piece up for sale. lol

All corals and fish are made from polymer clay and hand crafted one by one. The sand is just regular white craft sand. I have a few more fish to add, then I'll be pouring a layer of resin over the whole thing.

Are you actually looking at true references? It would be awesome to see some actual zoas or acans in this.

I didn't know what those were so I had to Google them and WOW, I love the vibrant colors! I will definitely have to work out how to make them and put them in the next tin.

I didn't look at real coral for these. I knew I wanted it to be really colorful and then I played around with textures and shapes. The only thing I looked up were the clown fish.

The ocean has a lot of really beautiful and texture filled creatures! Look up some ricordias and maxi-mini anemone too! Corals are probably my favourite part of salt water tanks haha. That and inverts, sexy shrimp are awesome, peacock mantis shrimp are wicked and under blue light absolutely stunning!

It is! I would love to own a saltwater tank one day when I have the time and resources to care for it properly. When I was picking out the fish for my freshwater tanks, I think I sat for about an hour stuck in the saltwater section of the store.

Oooh, a tin holding a larger scale shrimp would be neat. I think if I made them in the smaller scale no one would see them. lol

Lol Sexy shrimp are tiny creatures to begin with. If I get the chance I will take a couple pictures of mine and post them for you! They dance and are amazing shrimp!

They sound great! I wanted to convert my empty 10 gal into a betta/shrimp tank but I've run out of space. D: It's addictive. lol

Shrimp don't overly need a lot of space. I had about 16 cherry shrimp in my 5 gal betta tank (started with 3, was lucky enough to get a pregnant shrimp.) And a lot of the bigger shrimp (fan/flower/Anemone shrimp are a little larger, and will hide most of the time if you have a betta in the tank.) and most of them being algea eaters are going to clean the tank us as well. (which I needed them for, I have lots of live plant and a lighting system too good for my own good so I produce quite a bit of algea) I find they do a lot better than the bottom eaters and snails too.

That's a really cool idea. Maybe put a teeny tiny crab or starfish in the center. Or not. It's awesome already.

Thanks! I'm heading out to get some tiny sea shells today, and the plan is to make a tiny hermit crab in one of them.

you should so totally make a cute little eel poking its head of out the coral reef somewhere! o0o ! I cant wait till this is done!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PepperTreeArt In reply to LadyAriessTemptra [2014-04-28 12:35:48 +0000 UTC]

You know, I was thinking of that! There's a little space for an eel, too, on the bottom left bit of coral. I haven't covered it in resin yet so maybe I can stick one in.
