Nala, her twin brother, Mheetu, and their much younger brother, Elewa Elewa is based on the baby cub seen with Sarafina in this comic , while the Mheetu design is all me.

I’ve never really gotten to explore Elewa’s personality, since he’s more of a plot point for me than a character. Basically, he is where I ended up putting Mheetu’s script-personality, since my Mheetu became a sassy, go-getter guy who experiences a bunch of hardship. Instead, it’s Elewa who’s the tag-along kid. He’s innocent, naive, and sweet, but does grow wiser as time goes on. He’s a total Pollyanna, and always there to lend a paw—but he’s gullible, and his usually cute naivety can get him into trouble. Still, when things start getting dark under Scar’s reign, having that unflinching ray of sunshine around is appreciated.

Using human years, Elewa was born when Nala and Mheetu were eight years old. They’re in their early teens here, but still happy to play with their baby brother: after the disappearance of their father, Mheetu and Nala became involved in his life, as they wanted to shield Elewa from the sort of pain and grief that they had been through. Their protectiveness is part of why he is able to remain so starry-eyed as he grows older.

(The title translates to “a beautiful day”, because I liked that song in Return of the Roar )
