Description
So here's a picture on Osamu Tezuka's other famous character Kimba, and it's not for the right reasons. It's about this lion cub who tries to bring peace to the jungle after his father is killed and also wants to bring human culture into the jungle. If it sounds familiar, it's one of the reasons why people accused the Lion King for ripping off. Even though the staff for the Lion King claimed they never heard of this movie, I kinda see why some people thought on why they're similar. Though to be fair, both Kimba and Lion King kinda borrowed elements from another Disney movie that deals with a parent getting killed so that might've what "triggered" the similarities. Even then, Kimba is more in line with Babar, where a child after their parent was killed learned about human society and tries to teach it in the jungle. These days, the series kinda goes with the better translated Leo, one because that was Kimba's original name, the other is so people won't confuse it with the Lion King.
So how did I heard about this show? Well, in the early to mid 2000s, whenever I stayed over at my grandparents, I would watch some shows on the living room TV as they used to own Sky Angel, a Christian service that would often have some channels like KTV that would air children's content like Auto B. Good for example. My grandparents kept Sky Angel for a few years until 2006/2007 when they were charging more. And from what I heard, the service was shut down a few years ago from declining figures. Anyways, I saw Kimba from that channel and used to watch it from time to time until either they stopped reairing it or as I said, my grandparents dropped it. It was a later dub from the 1960s version and as a kid, I always thought Kimba was a mouse due to his ears and the way he was colored. XD
