Rattling with excitement for its arrival
Even though it’s late
And my bones ache
And my heart sinks
As deafening claps hit overhead
Like bullets through the chest
Lying flat in bed
Listening to the silence that follows the storm
The gentle fall of rain
My breath is shallow
Short and swift
And something else hits down hard
Snaps in the back of my head
And I’m spent
Passed out in sheets
With only memories of the storm
