When we got to the temple, we had already learned a lot about each other, Ryan attended the same school as his mother’s rival’s daughter, Weiss Schnee. perhaps coincidentally, they had both formed a similar fighting style, though he used fire based attacks unlike Weiss who was predominantly ice focused, even their weapons were similar, Myrtenaster and Pyralis are made of the same metal (Valerian Steel), and both are multi-action dust rapiers.

Kai explained that they had all attended the same academy, and had all made it to the finals for their exams, earning their place here. Nathaniel did his best to remain mysterious, but every now and then he would smile at one of Phoebe’s jokes. Isaac told me how he had gotten explosives down to an art form, though how anyone could find death and destruction art, I don’t know. And once, Lanze looked distracted (well, more distracted than usual) and when I asked what he was thinking about, he told me that he couldn't wait to see his girlfriend after the initiation.

Anyway, when we got there, I could see that we were the first, as there were no relics missing so we walked over and each pair claimed a piece, Phoebe and I chose the white bishop, Kai and Lanze decided on the black queen and Nathaniel and Isaac claimed the second black queen. Ryan, being the only one without a partner decided to get the other white bishop in case he found someone to pair up with.

“Why chess pieces?” Ryan asked as we were leaving the temple

“Maybe Ozpin is into chess” Phoebe said

“Or maybe he was having a game with Glynda and he was losing so he used them as relics so he wouldn't lose” Lanze suggested

“Whatever the reason, these are the relics, so let’s just deliver them already; I feel like I’m being followed . . . “ Nathaniel said

“You too?” I asked

“Yeah, when did you start feeling it?” he responded

“After the skirmish with that pack of Beowolves, you?”

“I’d say about the time we mopped up most of the survivors” Nathaniel said

“Hmm” I pondered “I wonder if . . . wait a minute, when did the forest get so quiet?” suddenly realizing that the clearing we just entered had become eerily silent

I scanned the tree line, taking out my weapon as I did so, the others followed suit

Now aware that they had been spotted, they sprung forward, what I had initially thought was a small pack was now confirmed to be of a much larger size

At first we mowed them down in their dozens, but eventually they started to overwhelm us, realizing this I ordered everyone to retreat towards the cliffs

As we fought our way towards the launch area and below that, the large stone structures, we found ourselves trapped against the fissure that until now, didn't know ran through a little of the forest, this was also the reason we were having such an easy time getting there, the Beowolves knew that we would run into it so they didn't need to swarm us, just force us back, and I sensed that they would not hesitate to drive us off the cliff

I was looking around for some way to get out of this mess when Kai said “we need to jump”

“WHAT!?” we all said in unison

“There’s a tunnel entrance on the cliff side, I see it, if we time it right, I can use my semblance to get us in” Kai responded

“You can’t be serious” Ryan said

“Well” Kai started “it’s either we definitely die here, or we might die there”

“Why not, let’s do this!” Phoebe said

“Okay then get ready, jump when I say so” Kai said

“Kai, if I die, I’m going to kill you” said Isaac

“Noted” Kai responded

As we got ready to jump the Beowolves increased their determination to get us

“Ready?” Kai looked around before saying “3.2.1.JUMP!”

“Alonze'!” I heard Nathaniel say before we jumped

As we were falling, I saw the cave entrance Kai had seen, and just when I thought we’d missed it, I was suddenly blown into it with the force of a gale

As we all fell into the opening, I hit my head on a rock as we passed by, and we all fell down the tunnel towards an underground lake and I lost consciousness as we hit the water

On the top of the cliffs, Glynda Goodwitch was viewing a camera feed of us falling into the tunnel entrance on her tablet

“They just fell into the underground catacombs, and we have no video feed there” Glynda said, a little concerned

“Really?” Professor Ozpin said as he calmly took a sip from his drink “for their sake, I hope they don’t wake the twins”
