I do kind of wonder what's up with Dash's grin. (and it also reminds me of Rainbow Factory from what I know of it without having read it) I love that you painted Cloudsdale (I LOVE the cloudsdale design!) though it would have been great to see some more detail on it! Using her tail as a means of framing the picture is interesting but it also makes her tail look kind of longer than it is, unless you intended to give her a longer tail. Overall, I like this!

I would usually love to do a critiques, but the theme of your picture is making me say no. (sorry I had recently read 'Rainbow Factory' and it bothers me to see a rainbow) I will try to do a critique if you want though it will most likely be comparing it to Rainbow Factory.

Hmm, normally I welcome critiques, but only if they're objective. If you really are unable to write one without making comparisons between this and...a really scary story, by the sounds of it, then I'd just as soon not have one at all. No offense though, right?

Yeah I mean you set it up perfectly. Rainbow's smile looks evil looking and anything in Cloudsdale reminds me of that story. You did a great job overall.

Ah, yes. Dashie truly is coolest pony.
I myself find the no lines styles appealing.

Is it wrong I thought of the "Reading Rainbow" theme song when I read the title?

XD
"Butterfly in the sky, I can go twice as high! It's in a book, take a look, a Reading Rainbow...." -falls over giggling- If Dash heard us she might throttle us!

Many thanks, my friend! Definitely proud of this one, and stylistically I think it's more appealing than my previous piece. But, there's still something missing, I think, something that I'm failing to do that makes the character pop like it should, but...I just don't know what it is. Thoughts?

You're very welcome, it is a well-composed piece. Never seen anything quite like it, which is saying something in such a massive fandom.
More pop, you say? Hrm, I dunno. I guess if you wanted to add more detail you could, but I wouldn't say the piece suffers without it. I think you're on the right track, just keep doin' what you're doin' and you'll find what you're looking for through practice. Idk, is that too vague?

No, I think you're right on the money--practice is what I need more than anything else. I'll leave this piece alone as it is, but I'll certainly reach for even better next time. I think I may start keeping a sketch diary--just a few doodles every day to help me gain more confidence in certain areas (like eyes, wings, shadows, etc.), then when I've amassed enough of them, I'll throw them all up on my page in a big dump.
Ironically, my next picture idea is non-pony, and very basic in design, so none of what we've just been talking about is likely to apply. Oh well!
