Why is purity and blood used so often with the other?

Im not sure if water would be better here, blood is bringing more "controversy" though. My thought is it relates to the idea of racism how some races are pure while others are not. and its a sacrilege to mix blood with those "worse". Thing is blood is not what we all share but water, and clean water, "pure" if You can call it.

I think that it has to do with how the blood of Christ (the lamb) washes away the sins of the people. But the act of sacrificing the blood of animals to make atonement is much older than that. There is also the aspect of making people pay for crimes by spilling their blood. Another thing that is worth considering is that since blood gives life to the flesh perhaps the blood depcted in this picture gives life to the world. There is still a lot of symbolism associated with blood.

That makes sense. I think at the time I wrote my comment, I was very, very vaguely trying to make some off comment on how purity and blood is commonly bastardized and utilized by groups that would point to their ethnicity and claim it as the "purer race" or something of that rhetoric. However, your explanation makes a lot more sense.
Actually, utilizing blood as a power source for, like, magic or power that revolves around the use, sacrificing, and draining of blood into things that you would normally find in, say, D&D, really intrigues me. Flesh golems, blood draining, blood sacrificing, things of that nature are all things I find conceptually and thematically stimulating.

However, I find the blood not too much in the picture of pure. Although blood is usually pure etc, still good idea. Perhaps it's just me. ^^
I would rather see fire as pure, fire purifies gold etc. Although, not any fire. More like a "holy" fire, yellowish-white kind of fire.
Just some thoughts, still, EPIC piece! Well done!
