Description So these are two designs here, even though there are three drawings
The one in the lower left corner is a predatory one, and it isn't that good of a glider, it lies pressed to tree bark with head down and has a brown pached camouflage to almost completely disapear from the sight of its prey.
It's an ambush predator who jumps at a passing flying/gliding prey item, it injects venom deep inside its body with its hooked claws on the modlegs, and it uses the prey as a shock absorber for landing on another tree or the ground. If on the ground, it pulls its prey up the tree where it can enjoy its luch at relative safety, because it's quite vulnerable on the ground.

These are not my only ideas for gliders, however, I have an idea for one "Draco meets flying frog" kind of thing, the midlegs will be short but with extremely long fingers (Draco's rib wings) with webbed feet for steering (flying frog)
I might come up with something else, but I don't know yet

I have drawn one glider before: [link]

I love these designs, particularly the one on the right! For some reason I'm getting a Nectarivore vibe from that guy...

Thank you! And Why not? Nectar/sap/fruit could well be on the diet of that one!

I am thinking of some plants. I think "swollen" tips of stems/branches of different shape and collor could substitute blossoms in some more advanced plants but I'll have to thing of a way how to not make them fruit-like (fleshy), but somewhat thin, leathery or unpleasantly-tasting to make them "not worth eating"
If herbivores ate the "blossoms" as fruit, it would make the pollination near impossible.
But the blossoms would then turn into sweet "seed containers" and there the "predation" would be benefficial for spreading of the plant to new areas...
I had an idea for a spore- or small-seed-bearing plant, which would have them on the underside of big leaves close to the ground, so close, that the animals would brush their backs off the leaves while walking/running underneath them to spread the seeds. These would be "fruitless" plants that can't use wind or water (too low and far from river flow) to spread their seeds/spores and this would be a possibility.
I also have an idea for a low plant with air-filled leaves with "thorns" (seed capsules) around the edge, and when an animals teps on the "bladder", the "thorns" fly off and either fly far away, or hit the animal and remain caught in their skin, and the animal carries the seed capsule to a new destination.

Neat ideas! Simple "sticker" pods would be downright boring on this world!

Thanks!
I guess there would be some plants like the well known "sticker pods", even though I'll try to make those "known designs" as different-looking as my imagination allows, but I thought that some "alien" ways of "making the job done" will never hurt! Also, I want to have some plants that spread by "parachute seeds" like dandelions (I even thought of some "caterpillars" which would be tiny and would have long stiff "fuzz" to "hitch-hike" on wind and get to new areas, but I didn't like neither of the sketches of those "larvae", I am still not satisfied with how they look... ), and wing/propeller-like seeds, and some hard-shelled "nuts" largely filled with air which would allow the "capsule" to float in water and spread by river flow...

Thank you!
Speaking of sticker pods, I think there could be "bristle husks"
I also have an idea for a "spitter pod" which would have two layers of "skin" and when the plant would withraw all water from the outer layer and pumped it into the inner layer, the pod would "explode" and the seeds would fly off (I made them look like tetrahedrons - with four thorns arranged in such a way that the seed would allways "stand" on three of them with one pointing upwards. They could land in a suitable place right after the "explosion" r they could "wait" for an animal to step on them and carry them to a new place (and this is just a "weak sauce" in comparison with one plant on earth, it evolved in such a way only aan ostrich can spread it. they have so tough feet they don't even "feel" that they stepped on the seed and that they have a stabbed foot, the seed is huge and covered in long curved thorns, but the ostrich can still run with it attached to its foot, but if you fell on it, or stepped on it, you'd be pretty much "ruined" , so I thought that with those seeds being much smaller, even a smaller animal could occassonally puck up a few seeds and carry them on their paws...

Makes sense. When you say "smaller", do you mean mouse-size, cat-size?...

PeteriDish In reply to Adiraiju [2012-03-17 12:14:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh sorry. I didn't mean so small, I should have probably said mid-sized. I think a mouse- or cat- sized animal would feel a big discomfort after such encounter, but a dog-sized animal would already have tough-enough "foot pads" to be "suitable" for the job. i only wrote that because it still seemed small enough in comparison with the doubletrunk... But don't worry, there'll be mouse- and cat- sized animals too, only the "supersized" animals will be more numerous.
