Leopard 2A6, very nice. tied for the top tank in the world with the Abrams, Challenger, and Merkava (since each country that builds them says their tank is the best)

well, from what I understand, the Abrams beats the Leo in the field of fuel useage. While the Abrams Engine is slightly less reliable then a diesel engine, try to find something that it WON'T burn. With the change of a fuel filter, it can burn just about any kind of fuel you can think of.
The Merkava does beat the Abrams in areas of protection and versatility. Although protection is only because the TROPHY system it uses stops most threats that can disable any other tank, how many tanks can claim that they can bring their own infantry support with them? Sure, the Merkava wasn't designed with that purpose in mind, but it was found it can do it in a pinch.
The Challenger is on par with the Leo in the area of engine, but while the Abrams and Leo rely on a smooth-bore gun, the Challenger uses a rifled gun. While it may have slightly better accuracy and range, the Rifled guns to suffer in the area of veritility. There are certain shell types that cannot be used in rifled guns (primarily, Sabot, and ATGM), and this does hinder it in combat.

Leo 2 have better fire-control system, commander on Leo 2 have better situational awareness and Rhl120/L55 - best tank cannon for a moment.
Latest Merkava the heaviest in the world, no wonder its better protected even without TROPHY. Abrams and Leo both have worse sides protection. And at last Abrams showed in Iraq really bad protection of backside of the turret, as well as badly protected fire-dangerous auxiliary power system at the side, though they could resolve this already I guess.

well, the Abrams does have one key feature that all Western Designed tanks share, and has save COUNLTLESS tank crews... blow-out hatches. Sure, the ammot may go off if the turret is hit in the rear, but when the bang is redirected out of the turret, and away from the crew, all it means is some brown underwear and some bells ringing.

Actually its a 2A5, 2A6 has a longer barrel.
