May I give you a little advice for shadows? ^^ Well, I started to do fair shadows just this year: infact I've always shaded randomly XD So I suggest you to do stupid objects with simple shape (such as books or pencilcases) and to begin to make simple shadows. In this way you learn how to press the pencil. While, for more complicated shadows (which take place in folds) you have to copy simply folds (but also random fabrics 
At last, you don't need to improve in a time all together 
Keep on practising and believe in your skills: you'll start soon drawing more or less perfectly whatever is in your mind! ^^ Good luck!
