THANK YOU. Groundshaker could still use a beak, but otherwise, this. I don't know what Wizards was thinking when they insisted that removing all recognizable traits from such a long-running and beloved tribe was a good idea.

Or it signifies that the slivers are no longer a single united hive, ut instead have now split into multiple hives.

Exactly. It changes what Slivers are. They are, by identity, pieces of a single whole. Even their name signifies that: they are slivers of one larger piece. If they're not...they're not Slivers. They're a new species that warrants its own, different name.

This. SO much this. My biggest issue with them is that they named these new things Slivers to rope in old players, and then went and changed everything about them so they no longer resembled nor acted like the slivers the older players remember.Β There's nothing wrong with the concept and designs, they're just not slivers, and I'm pretty sure everyone would have been happy if Wizards just used a different name.

Even a nod to slivers would have been fine: "Slivlings" or something? It's fine if they're an evolved post-sliver, but calling them slivers is like calling humans Homo antecessors. It's just not good.

just a theorie from the flavour forum from Wizards:
The old slivers were a hive "stolen" from their home world with a underdevelopt queen so they were stuck in a kind of larve-state. the new ones are a completly developt hive, which can "encrypt" their transformation.
so and now the real reasons they are like they are:
1. they werenΒ΄t slivers until playtesting until all playtesters complained that they arenΒ΄t slivers
2. they are made with the new lord rule in mind which got errata so they just grant their boni to your guys
