The sliding sidekick is all about power and distance. It is an extremely long kick that creates a huge amount of power when done correctly.
Look at the girl in the front row, third from the left (call her Girl 1). A few things that make this a really good sliding sidekick...
1. Her kick is almost completely horizontal. The girl to the left of her is kicking high. When you do that, you lose power. The sliding sidekick is all about controlling a line of power, and your power is best created when it's sent out a straight line from your body.
2. Also take a look at the reach Girl 1 is trying for. She's pushing out and transferring all of her forward energy to the end of her foot. This is a very powerful kick.
3. Girl 1 also has her standing foot rotated 180 degrees and facing the back.
When done right, the sliding sidekick has huge amounts of power. Girl 1 holds the female board breaking record in our institute....7" of pine boards. Her incredible power doesn't come from her weight or age, but from technique.
