Hello

thanks for your comment

On this one it has been done with a 5D2 and 300 2.8 combo (if I remember well). Now I use as many lenses as possible but my main trio is :
400 2.8, 200 1.8 and 85 1.2.

My goodness, the atmosphere here is totally captivating Like three sentinels watching over their kingdom, or like some age old living statues who continue to stand guard. Amazing colours also, I love how the background has the same colour scheme as the fence. I love your play with DOF here. Amazing

beautiful shot. wow, such a narrow field and from a distance. What lens did you use? I want it.

any photoshop involved?

phalalcrocorax In reply to TTM77 [2012-04-02 16:33:42 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha ha... it is written in the bottom of this page (300mm 2.8)
In fact, it is not the lens that helped to make such a narrow depth of field... it is the 5D MkII. FF sensors are amazing for that

Thanks again for your answer

thanks for answering and sharing.

The Camera Data, it have camera info but the lens info is the setting of the lens at time of shoot. So you could be using the 100-400mm lens, but than that lens can only go down to F4.

I have a cheap XTi. I'm going to invest in the 100-400mm lens.

phalalcrocorax In reply to TTM77 [2012-04-02 22:49:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you are right, that was why I told you it was written 300mm, 2.8 with a 5D mkII camera Their is only one lens able to do 2.8 at the 300mm focal. To be more precise, I used the 300 2.8 L IS lens (not the new one)

The XTi is a REALLY good camera, I used an even worse camera for years with a great joy. The 100-400mm is good too... but I think you should have a look to the 300 f4 Or perhaps the cheaper and good performer sigma 120-400 OS

Have a good evening

Really the sigma can perform equal to a Canon L lens? I'm going to check into this sigma 120-400 OS. Thanks.

phalalcrocorax In reply to TTM77 [2012-04-04 15:51:45 +0000 UTC]

Hi

In fact, the 120-400 and 100-400 are good lenses but most of them suffer with centering troubles. Unfortunately, you can find a really good sigma and a very poor canon, the other is true too... there is no rules about this

I checked again and it seems that most sigma are poor. I tried one that was pretty good so I don't really know if it is a good idea

I think you should consider the 300 F4 and perhaps you can add a converter

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TTM77 In reply to phalalcrocorax [2012-04-04 17:12:56 +0000 UTC]

I understand the L lens are mostly good and sigma is less. So I'm more likely to get a good Canon L lens than I would with sigma.

I know fix lens quality is better but I really need the zoom. At times I wish I can move closer to my subject, but like the Grand Canyon you can't move beyond the cliff.

Good choice

I am sure you will make great pictures with the 100-400. I made a few and I was really happy with the result
