Equestria Daily's Newbie Artist Training Grounds, day 23: Draw a pony experiencing your favorite moment in the fandom / Draw a pony experiencing how you discovered FiM for the very first time (SFW).

I first found out about MLP:FiM around the end of the first season. After watching a few episodes I found my way into Ponibooru and was impressed by some of the clever drawfriend art. There was a series of ponified Secret of Monkey Island pics I thought were clever.

I have a little group of friends I first met in college. We've been playing D&D and going on various adventures ever since. One of my friends brought her brother into the group after he came to town for college. One Friday we're getting together at my house, and he's showing his sister a new ponified Monkey Island pic I had seen on the booru earlier that day. The comic shows more or less how that scene played out.

Up until this point, MLP was another goofy TV show with an equally goofy internet fandom, and I was having fun kinda watching from nowhere near it. Finding out this friend, who draws under the handle Fetchbeer , was a rather talented artist and had contributed some of the art I really liked, well... It's hard to explain. I'd never had a friend who was at all really into any of the more oddball stuff I kinda liked. This was new to me.

Finding out Fetch had drawn this stuff for Equestria Daily's inaugural Newbie Artist Training Grounds lit something up in me. I was already getting some commissioned art at that point but this gave me an inkling of an idea I might be able to draw my own pictures. When NATG came around again, I decided to join in.

And here we are, eight or so years later.
