Description Phantom in a detailed close up profile shot with her decorative mystic feather. I like how the colors turned on out this one and thats probably the first feather I've ever drawn that came out the way I wanted it to. So yay for improvement.

I've had people tell me that I've got a knack with detail, but the amount you've put into the feather and fur is just crazy. o.o It's all smooth, too. XP Excellent stuff!

Of course, its amazing, I wish I could do traditional more, but I don't have the right stuff for it... sadly enough, I have money to get CS4 but not color pencils... haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phantom-Mist In reply to XLegacyXDreamsX [2009-01-22 05:39:16 +0000 UTC]

Well if you want you could start off with a simpler colored pencil that is less expensive and great for beginners. I recommend Prang to begin with. Its a softer lead and is great for learning finite details and control! Only less expensive!

XLegacyXDreamsX In reply to Phantom-Mist [2009-01-22 05:44:12 +0000 UTC]

What ones do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phantom-Mist In reply to XLegacyXDreamsX [2009-01-22 05:48:09 +0000 UTC]

I've been working with colored pencils for a while so I've graduated to Prismicolor. There are many different varieties of Prismicolor colored pencils and I use the Verithin variety because the lead is harder and its easier for me to make my details with them.

XLegacyXDreamsX In reply to Phantom-Mist [2009-01-22 05:49:50 +0000 UTC]

Thats what my friend uses... She does amazingly with them, she says she also has a nice blending pencil

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phantom-Mist In reply to XLegacyXDreamsX [2009-01-22 05:53:20 +0000 UTC]

Yep that would most likely be the Prismicolor colorless wax blending pencil. I dont use it typically because I feel like it fudges my details.

Thanks, although I didn't really make it. What was your medium for this profile?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phantom-Mist In reply to Robot0celot [2009-01-22 05:28:24 +0000 UTC]

This profile was first done as a pencil sketch, then I used .01, .03 and .05 ink pens to outline and detail. And finally Prismicolor colored pencils for the rest. I put it in Photoshop for the gradient "phantom mist" words and some minor clean up (Im a lefty so I smudge like crazy!).

Robot0celot In reply to Phantom-Mist [2009-01-22 05:31:32 +0000 UTC]

Aaah. Cool. I wish I could afford Prismacolor. Alas, I am stuck with crayola.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phantom-Mist In reply to Robot0celot [2009-01-22 05:33:29 +0000 UTC]

Actually you could invest in Prang. They cost about the same as Crayola I think but the quality is supremely better. Prang is the pencil I used to learn to first color with, so I highly recommend it!

Robot0celot In reply to Phantom-Mist [2009-01-22 05:35:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the recommendation!

Phantom-Mist In reply to Robot0celot [2009-01-22 05:37:25 +0000 UTC]

Of course! And if you want to try your hand at inking I find Micron (the most popular) to be way to tempermental for beginning, so I work with a harder tipped inking utencil to begin with.
