Description This is my first tutorial on Photo Manipulation and it was also my first time to manipulate a photo. I started the project from entering a horror photo manip. contest and this was the result of one of my entries. The last little bit is really up to the user. You can either use the same splatter effect or do what you will.
either way, just repeat the over lay steps when doing them and most importantly use your imagination and don't over do it.

Fantastic tutorial. Exactly the kind of thing I'm after to change some friends into.

Unfortunately I couldnt get it to work after I got to section 3. After much humming and Haahing I read through the comments and realised that it's not actually for photoshop .

Great look, and I'm sure the tutorial is excellent for GIMP. I'll try and see if I can work out the step 3 and beyond for PS CS4. In the meantime I'll get back to scouring the tutorials.

Great stuff you do though

It can translate over to CS4 but it does require one to be PS savvy and that's one thing I am not, haha. Sorry I couldn't be much more help and thanks for the compliments!

Thanks for the reply mate. I managed to work my way through it and have now successfully uploaded my first dA pic, all thanks to your tutorial and the great piece of work.

Its not very good, and I think the next thing I'll be concentrating on is trying to learn blending and burning properly. Its available here if you want a look [link] rint_followup

For some reason its only available on the print option. Not that its for sale.

Thanks again

Great tutorial, but I keep on screwing up towards the bottom of the 3rd step. What do you mean by shrink? I mean, I know how to shrink an image, I'm just really comfused on how that's going to work...
Do you know what I mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomKhaos In reply to Jen987558 [2009-08-08 20:45:22 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, this is an old tut for me, lol. Was poorly done and quickly put together as well. I really need to redo it, but aside from that.

To answer your question...

What I was meaning was after creating the white gradient area that you just created you need to apply a light blur to the layer. That will give it a fuzzier realistic effect, then once that's done, just shrink that layer down to make a more realistic "reflection". Notice how the white reflection in mine is smaller than the black part? That's the effect your aiming for.

I hope that helps.
Justin

For some odd reason when I click 'full view' it just comes up blank :/ It looked like a really cool tutorial, but I can't see any of the writing or the pictures unless I go onto small view, but then the writing is really small

afallenhope [2009-02-04 02:25:18 +0000 UTC]

hey,
I won't lie.. it was a somewhat good tutorial, however some of it was rather confusing. by "select the eyes" you can pretty say "select only the iris" , "select the pupil", "select the ENTIRE eye", I don't know.. was a nice tutorial but difficult and rather confusing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomKhaos In reply to afallenhope [2009-02-06 21:45:27 +0000 UTC]

I could, but then again, I'm talking to humans not monkeys (I hope). I think judging by the pictures provided it would be easy for one to figure out that Im talking about the entire eye, not just the iris or the white part, lol.

Sorry for the confusion, I'll try and make it more understandable.........next time, haha.

I'm having a bit of troble with step 3 concerning the part where you "Fill empty space with white to invisible and drag.." I'm not exactly sure how to go about it.

Going-In-Blind [2008-10-11 14:41:03 +0000 UTC]

Hi again, I just have a quick question regarding the end of step 3. You say to add a Gaussian Blur of 2.0. Im using Gimp and im clueless as to what to do. If you can help me with just that then i think im set.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomKhaos In reply to Going-In-Blind [2008-10-11 16:18:06 +0000 UTC]

To use Gaussian blur right click on the canvas, select Blur > Gaussian blur. That should bring up a new window with a few options. Make sure both are set to 2.0 and click ok.

Any more questions just let me know.

Really cool! I just seem to be having some trouble with the blood around the lips.. Keeps coming up too bright.
Good job with the tutorial though

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomKhaos In reply to xSugar-Cubex [2008-09-18 04:54:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a million. To darken the red around the lips try duplicating another of the black layers and using Overlay. Put that on top of the red layer and play with the opacity. See if that works. If you need more help just let me know.
