~Oh hello are you looking for Professor Stein, his right now busy. Oh? Me? I'm his lab assistant. I pretty much stay here. I've never been to the Academy, so... anyway I'll go tell him that you're here.~
This boy has been Stein's lab assistant since he arrived in death city six years ago with no name and no memory, so Stein is the one who gave him the name “Kaito” meaning that he is a Phantom, and since then Stein has such a been relatively good at take care of him (for he does actually asked for his permission before he cut him open & stuff. Don't worry he still has everything intact.)
And due to Kaito being there his overwhelming empathy and care for others has been a great influence on Stein's behavior, and with later Marie living at the lab it seems like there almost a “family.”
And he will do what he can to protect this “family” that he has made.
