You did a great job with the arms, and I love how elegant they look. The flow is so soft and pretty! I think you did a great job.

I think you did wonderfully. Better than me and I draw arms semi-often. XD

As per always I love it! You definitely captured that gracefulness of a swordsmen in this pic.

For... maybe a year or two I guess. He's kind of his own story, so he's pretty much it.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't think of Sephiroth when I saw this.
Anywho, I'm rather glad you pushed yourself out of your own comfort zone. I think that this is still a worthy addition to your gallery. I can see why you have some frustration with some technical bits which you have mentioned (I'd have to say that the character's right arm and back seems slightly off to me, but I'd have to look at it more to make any real comments).
Despite those weaknesses (somewhat minor ones in my opinion, but that's just me), I still think that the general aesthetic, composition, and flow of the piece more than make up for it. The colors work well together, and your inking and line art retain their high standards. I am especially fond of the design of the emblem in the background.

Yes! That does make me feel better.
Yeah, it's probably a bit off. The back is MAJORLY off for sure. A little sad, since I even drew out his anatomy pretty extensively before adding the clothes. Ah well, with more practise, I'm sure I'll get it right.
Yep, I wanted it to be kind of an arty weird, inside-of-an-eyeball looking thing. I'm pretty satisfied with how it came out.

Well, anatomy is a difficult and complicated thing, and I think even the pros can struggle with it on occasion. Goodness knows I have terrible anatomy in my drawings, but practice is always helpful in that regard.
Anywho, I did like the background thing a lot. Have you tried only making those emblems/designs/background symbols/thingie? I have a feeling you'd be good at it.

Hmm... not sure I understand exactly what you're asking when you say " Have you tried only making those emblems/designs/background symbols/thingie?" I like putting circles in most of my stuff and try to make the circles more interesting by making them more design-like or spiky halo things.

Well yeah, that was sort of what I was trying to ask. I mean, just making those circles more interesting might be a fun thing.

Circles are definitely my go-to shape when I need some kind of design. I guess it goes well, since I like my pictures to have a kind of energy/movement.

Oh dear god, I just blocked out everything negative you said about this because it's gorgeous! The inking looks so precise and perfect! I'm so jelly of your skillz...like seriously. I wish I could draw males HALF as good as you.
I bet he is an interesting character, and he would have made an interesting addition to the "Oriental adventures" game a friend of mine ran. Everyone had interesting quirks with their characters (Mine was a schizophrenic shrine maiden. XD) I say that because we had one guy in our group who had a "typical" swordsman type character but he sucked at role-playing. Move to MA and come play some D&D with us!!

Yep! Possibly the only kick-butt Virgo ever. XD And if I lived in MA I DEFINITELY would play D&D with you. Funny thing you should say that. I once had someone also try to roleplay a typical swordsman, and he was bad at it too. Maybe it's just a hard archetype to write well (ours was a written roleplay instead of D&D).

Despite the fact you don't care for the folds, they really add some nice diagonals.
