Forgot to mention that the story goes that after John F. Kennedy was brought back to the mainland after the PT-109 incident in the pacific (WW2) he was sent here to recuperate. The story also goes that when he was able to walk again he would climb up to the very spot I am standing at and raise the America flag on the flagpole that still exists today and then later climb back up and lower it at days end.
