Damon is well versed in the lore of nymphs, so he knows that a man cannot see a nymph without falling under her spell of seduction. Since he is determined to be the strongest and most powerful guy out there, he will do whatever he must in order to maintain that power, even when under the spell of a hamadryad. So pretty much, his love (or lust - I think there is an element of both) for Cruetia is what makes him cruel to her...yeah, it's extremely messed up. <.< >.>

yes, she is. See, hamadryads are inherently attached to their trees; if you hurt the tree, you hurt them, and so forth. And this one guy uprooted her tree and has it in his keeping, so he pretty much has complete control over her...
major angst story! XD
