Description Obviously, this is a digital photograph of my pet California King Snake, Orochimaru!!

This photo was not easy to take, for I had to remove the lid from his tank, which removed the light source!! Let's just say I was going in blind!!

Beautiful snake! Is it a california king? I used to have a royal python but she got too big for her enclosure and I had to give her to the local nature center.

Thank you...

Yes, Orochimaru is a Cal King. Sorry you had to give up your snake, but it sounds like she went to a good home...

Yes, I did have a snake. I re-homed Orochimaru for I am more interested in lizards. Despite getting the care he needed, I just didn't interact with him enough, so I found someone (a father and son) who would give Orochimaru more attention.

Orochimaru was very well behaved, though not the brightest bulb in the pack. I have come to find that most king snakes seem to lack brains, but intelligence isn't everything for they are pretty laid back when handled regularly.

Corn snakes are great too, especially for beginners since they stay small. The biggest problem with them is if they stop eating, which can also be a problem with royal "ball" pythons.

What a sweet little face!!! I love king snakes. They have a great attitude. I had a lovely little guy named Algernon but he committed suicide by escaping his tank and my boyfriend's cat got him. ):

When I was little, I had a hamster escape his cage and the dog got him...

Gorgeous animal, such interesting markings! I'd say you did a good job on the light, it looks very well lit.

Thank you, believe it or not Orochimaru was a rescue. His original owner placed him in a container and left him to starve in a storage unit. I do not understand how people can do that?!

Sadly, some people just do not care. I see that all of my animals ("kids") get the best of care. Thank you, he obviously did not look that way when I first got him...

Isn't he?! Orochimaru was a rescue case, but I believe I already told you his tale? If not, then let me know and I will be more then happy to share it with you. Thanks...

I think you told me about him. He's beautiful. I would love to adopt a snake but I can't get over the whole eating mice thing. I had mice as pets so that would be kind of upsetting for me!

I have a box turtle I got from a run down pet store: they had her in newspaper in a tank.. nice insulation there. Got her when I was in grade school.. still have her now!

Luckily, Orochimaru eats frozen prey and not live. They do have alternate snake foods, one example would be a special sausage. The only problem is, not all snakes will except it...

Box turtles are wonderful! I hatched 3 baby box turtles. We came home to find the Mom laying her eggs in a not so safe place. I waited until she was done, dug them up and incubated them!

I still don't think I could even do frozen food. I would remember Mr Portly sitting on my shoulder everytime I needed to feed the snake!

GT (My turtle's name) is a stubborn girl. That's cool you were a turtle mommy. What became of the babies?

It is understandable, I have had my share of pet mice and rats too and sometimes my conscience still gets the best of me, but Orochimaru needs to eat too...

We released them back into the wild once we made sure they were healthy and a little bigger. Since their Mom was wild we figured it only fair!

I know there is an organization in VA here, they rescue turtles and they are trying to make the box turtle the state reptile...I wonder if they have succeeded yet?!

Wow, I really like your snake!! I've always wanted a pet snake myself, but I don't know what I'd do if it ever got loose when it got bigger... I don't really like thinking about finding my sweet little chinchilla inside of a snake.

The good thing with California King Snakes is they don't get to big!! They average 30 to 70 inches and their bodies don't get any real girth! His main diet, once he gets bigger will mainly be adult mice, nothing bigger...Right now he is eating fuzzy mice!

Orochimaru is actually a rescue case, he was left to die in a plastic container in a storage unit!! The person renting the unit quit paying, luckily, so Orochimaru was soon found and rescued by animal control!! Once his time was up, I adopted him!!

Aw man, that's terrible... How could someone leave their snake (or ANY pet, for that matter) in a storage unit? And cooped up in a plastic container... Jeez. I'm really glad you were able to adopt him!!

The sad thing is, there was more then just Orochimaru left in a container in the unit!! There was a corn snake who didn't make it!
