Description This is my rendition of the Mt. Sanitas Valley trail in Boulder, CO. I used to live on 4h St. in Boulder and would go hiking on this trail with my dogs every single day. The trail started two blocks from my house and I have been up there in just about every weather condition you can imagine. Through the seasons the views of this part of the mountains changes dramaticaly...they are all beautiful, but I have found Fall to be my favorite. For about two weeks towards the end of October, the trees seem to be on fire with radical hues of yellow and orange.

The Front Range is an amazing part of the country where the rolling plains meet the Rocky Mountains. I feel it is important to see where you live from a vantage point. It gives me a sense of scale to visualize just exactly where my daily life takes place. Every time I look at this piece, I am reminded of where I am in the world and of the beauty that lies in my own backyard.

I really like the graphism, the colors, the psychedelic and yet peaceful atmosphere of the landscape... Some of the patterns are very peacock-like, you must have put a lot of work into this !

a friend of mine saw my art and showed me a picture he bought at a festival of trippy salt lake with trees just like the ones in this picture and I am going to have to assume it was also by you. Small world...but props to your style, it blew my friends' minds when they looked at it trippin.

BAH!! PHIL LEWIS!! I do so love your extravagant, acid trip inducing pieces. I discovered your fabulous coloring book when it arrived at the bookstore that employs myself and I purchased one of your prints at the Creek Festival. Needless to say, I am most impressed with your gorgeous artwork and still recommend your book to artistically inspired big kids ^.~ cheers!!

Right on. Thanks so much. It's great to hear you are diggin on the coloring book! I'm always stoked to share some of the craziness that goes on in my head... at least, with the coloring aspect of it all!!!

Thanks also for picking up prints, and your comment.

Have a great day!

Peace.

this is such a superb work! i watched, mesmerized, as the full-view opened s-l-o-w-l-y. (at least, slowly for cable high speed) i find my style is quite similar... i am curious how you gauge what color scheme works best? i am constantly battleing with color... grrr... it often RUINS my works... so any advice from such a guru of color & design would be most appreciated!

*sigh*. I grew up in Boulder, maybe five minutes from you on Glenwood drive. My favorite part of that trail is the cliff seat with the short pine tree right above what we used to call the "red trail" (the really steep part with the red earth) that's a wind tunnel so the breeze is always sweeping up even on hot dry Colorado days. Nostalgia...
Anyway I like the swirlyness and the way you make the lines of the landscape go down into the distance so it feels like there is the ridge on one side and Mt. Sanitas on the other. I like the side-view of the flatirons as well. But Sanitas valley isn't really that green - Colorado's real grass is tall and coarse and yellow!

thanks for all your comments. I checked out your work, and I really like your colors and patterns. patterns are the best, somtimes they can get away from you, take on a life of their own...which makes them more then just patterns...art.

I am also intrigued by your stained glass. I have always been interested in glass, but never met anyone who knew how to do it. i guess i could try and find a class somewhere, but i never really liked school, so hopefully someday i can get into it.

thanks again, talk to you later...
