Hitler is far more famous than this Italian dictator who wonders...Doesn't he look better or it's just my illusion?I am not a fan of the Axis, but then again, I just don't know why Mussolini is not as popular as Hitler though.

Mussolini took the power before Hitler did it. Mussolini inspired Hitler in many ways, principally in the way in which he showned to the masses (always wearing a military huniform, and making constat references, in his discipline, in the organization of the Party (etc. etc.) to a military form of organization.

An interesting fact about Mussolini was that Hitler viewed him as a mentor. He is also credited as being the Karl Marx and Lenin of Fascism since he was the one who lead the movement. Another fun fact is that before world war 2 the liberals of that time actually had a favorable view of Benito with Churchill and Gandhi praising him. He is also credited as having saved Italy during the depression by basically gripping it by the balls and remaking it a super-power. One of the few during the depression. He also saved Italy from communism, mostly because he was formerly part of the socialist party of Italy until they kicked him out which started his national fascist party. Well, that and there was an assassination attempt by him from two communist on a beach no less. ~ C

Mussolini didn't really do anything, what take over some sand in Africa and fail to work with the Afrikakorps? Hitler's armies fought to the last man on a battlefield, Italy surrendered as soon as they had the chance.

Because Mussolini didn't aimed to conquer europe, he just worked for Italy. He followed Hitler when Hitler started to conquer Europe, but Mussolini had no interest in expanding his territory.

Absolutely. Oh, and Imperial Japan was already on their quest for world domination even long before Hitler made its first move by attacking Poland (and then having to share it in half with Stalin before advancing to France and Britain). And yet it's beyond absurd that many people here still care more about what the Nazis did than Japan's atrocities which still remain covered by the Japanese revisionist ultra-nationalists or Shinto imperialists...

He WAS a dictator. His dictacture was different from communism, people had a better life quality compared to people in communist dictatorship but they had not freedom of speech.

The truly odd thing about this is that Hitler considered Mussolini a mentor and a role model. Plus, Hitler even busted Mussolini out of jail once.
Mussolini (1922-1945) had power for a longer period of time than Hitler (1933-1945), though oddly enough he got less done.
Finally, whereas Hitler shot himself, and ordered his body destroyed, Mussolini was executed, and his body was strung up and stoned. But, after he was buried his body was disinterred and now lies in a very nice tomb where he is today honored by members of the Italian right wing.

This book [link] has all sorts of information on Mussolini and Fascist Italy. The primary thesis in the book is that the world at large sees all dictators as copies of Hitler, when in actuality Hitler is more of a dangerous exception than the rule. Mussolini can be placed among his brethren as just another tin-pot dictator like Salazar, Galtieri, Franco, Castro, Obregon, Batista, Zelaya, and Pinochet. We can't really hate him, but we definitely shouldn't honor him.

That's interesting. Still, Mussolini is not as famous as Hitler even though he looks better than him. But I believe he is not 'honored' by most people too...except for the fact he could be a good couple with Hitler in the net.
