Sometime in life you meet people who always smile, who never seems to be worried by anything, even in the most precarious situations. Lioba is that kind of people. She came from a poor family and since her childhood she dreamt about becoming a gladiatrix, like the ones she saw in the arena. Her case is not isolated; as a matter of facts, the majority of the gladiatrix where like her : volunteers. Being a gladiatrix made you an outcast, you had to be treated as a slave, even if you were free, you could be wounded, mutilated, even killed. But, in the other side, in one fight, you could win a year’s worth of a soldier’s salary ! More than Lioba could earn in a lifetime of “normal” work !

Lioba chose to be a spearmaiden, since her favorite gladiatrix were. She uses a medium spear and protection on the left side of her body (iron manica and ocrea, plus a leather protection to the calf), the right one being totally exposed. That makes her vulnerable but her opponent have to get past her spear to have a chance !
