Damnatio ad ludum

===

“A life dedicated to crime”

What a fool !

What was that judge thinking ? That she chose to be an orphan ? That she chose to grow up in the streets ?
Yet, she was a thief, she never denied it. But the law of the Empire wasn’t written for scoundrels like her. The judge had every right to remove her from society : sending her to the mines, the galleys, even hanging her if he wanted to make an example.

But he had another idea : the damnatio ad ludum. In other words, she will have to fight as a gladiatrix for the entertainment of the crowd, till she gains her freedom or, more probably, till the arena takes her life.

She was thrown in a cell, waiting to be sent in a ludus, a gladiatoral school.

She spent days reflecting on her life, reflecting on her choices, and realizing that she could not really have done differently.

One day, the door finally opened.

“You ! Get up ! Time to be useful for once !”.
