Description a walk down memory lane
is a calender flipping through the months.

the first steps are small,
relaxing and soothing.
remember the good times,
the old friends, the new.
these movements are simple,
refreshing like the first day of summer.
the school bell rings for the last time,
we're free at last, we're free at last
to explore the world and find our paths.

the next steps are harder,
dwelving deeper, even further.
overwhelmed with the heartache,
mistakes, breakups, and drama.
feet are moving slower
barefoot and dragged across the cold linoleum.
resisting going further while our conscious drags us on.
like the fall leaves we are dying,
piece by piece and never slowing.
alive on the inside but the leaves are always falling,
burning at the heart, of gold and red embers.

now is the challenge,
the winter storms and tears.
memories you thought you'd locked
too deep to be remembered.
nightmares from your past
that should have stayed away,
are eating at your insides
begging to be freed.
like the snow thats quickly falling
piling high outside the windows,
emotions growing snowbanks
creating lumps in your throat.
the windows, your eyes
make it hard for you to see.
this is winter, and only the brave make it through.

the walking becomes easier,
as we triumph on through spring.
the hardest part is giving way,
tears subdue to swollen eyes.
memories here are lighter,
less dramatic, less profound.
spring plays between our feet
like the new green grass below..
birds returned to the north
and the flowers are in bloom.
the walk ends with the turning of
the spring into the summer.
memories placed back back, out of your mind
and wait to be revisisted.

(and they will,
as predictable as the seasons.)
